Spirit Concentration: A House with a Soul

TienyuWu's Award-Winning Design Marries Tradition and Innovation

Imbued with a sense of tranquility and a deep respect for Japanese culture, the Spirit Concentration house is a testament to the power of design in shaping our living spaces. This 40-year-old house, inherited and transformed, is a unique blend of the old and the new, the personal and the universal.

The Spirit Concentration house, designed by TienyuWu, is not just a structure; it's a repository of memories and a canvas for new experiences. The design was inspired by the owner's love for Japanese culture and the desire for a quiet, serene atmosphere. The house was designed with three main goals in mind: to create a tranquil atmosphere, to have flexible and charming public spaces, and to ensure comfortable and invisible private spaces.

What sets this design apart is its unique use of wood textures to represent the memories and experiences of the owners. The husband's love for Japanese culture and the wife's profession as a dessert chef in Japan were key influences in the design process. The house features a variety of materials including wood textiles, oak wood, Taiwan cypress wood, stainless steel, square-tube, white coating glass, black mirrors, and cement boards.

Advanced Building Information Modeling (BIM) techniques were used in the design and construction of the house. This allowed for a smooth negotiation process with the clients and the creation of detailed construction drawings. The use of BIM also enabled the design team to effectively execute their vision for the project.

The project, which began in January 2016 and was completed in October of the same year, was carried out in Taipei, Taiwan. The house spans an area of 146 square meters and was designed for a married couple starting a new life together. The design process involved long-term discussions and negotiations, resulting in a consensus on the ideal concept for the house.

The Spirit Concentration house has been recognized for its innovative design and has been awarded the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is granted to designs that reflect extraordinary excellence and significantly impact the world with their desirable characteristics.
